Description: Run DMC is a hand-cut paper artwork created by Roche Jackson in 2020. This piece is edition 2 of 5. It pays tribute to one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history. Run DMC was one of the first hip-hop groups that inspired me as a kid. Their music, style, and energy helped shape my love for both hip-hop and visual art.
The artwork is made from three layers of 300 GSM colored cardstock. Every layer was cut by hand using only an X-Acto knife. This careful process creates depth, texture, and strong visual contrast. It transforms simple paper into a detailed, handcrafted work of art.
The bold yellow and deep maroon color palette reflects the visual style of early hip-hop. It also draws from my background in screen printing and T-shirt design. Years of working with bold graphics, layered inks, and high-contrast colors influenced the design of this piece.
Run DMC celebrates the connection between music, street culture, and graphic design. It combines craftsmanship, nostalgia, and my own creative experience. The artwork honors a legendary group whose influence continues to inspire artists, designers, and hip-hop fans around the world.
